Werner was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After graduating from Summit College in Abbotsford, British Columbia, he returned to Ontario to become the youth pastor at Tottenham Evangelical Church near Toronto. In July 1983, Werner and Gabriele moved to Milwaukie, Oregon as an associate pastor responsible for youth and music at Clackamas Christian Center. While living in the Portland area, he enrolled at George Fox University in the Master of Divinity program. A few weeks after their daughter, Alison, was born, the family moved to Nederland (Beaumont), Texas in August 1986. Werner served as Senior Pastor in Nederland First Assembly of God for six years (1986-1992). In October 1992, Werner came to Life Church in Aloha, Oregon and has led the church through two significant building programs and transitions. In June 2003, Werner graduated from Fuller Seminary with a doctorate degree in Church Management and Leadership. Werner is married to Gabriele and they have two children – Alison (1986) and Arden (1989).
